Gold Plated

What is Gold Plated Jewellery

Gold plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal, most often copper or silver. This gives the the illusion of a pure gold piece of jewellery. Solid gold is of course an exquisite piece of jewellery. Gold filled is the next level, quality alternative to solid gold. Gold plating is the lower level but often can be the most popular as it's the cheapest alternative.

Does Gold Plating fade?

Yes - the silver atoms diffuse into the gold layer, causing slow gradual fading of its colour and eventually causing tarnishing of the surface. This process may take months and even years, depending on the thickness of the gold layer.
